Thanks everyone, I agree frank & bill.Summary: Watch out for the fake models. If yours is a very early one circa 1968 to mid-70's it may not be multicoated and its performance will be less. Mine, by the way, has the T* multicoating which I think was introduced about 1978. It seems to be more robust, however, and is designed to withstand more rough usage. Unlike Hensoldt's Nacht Dialyt 8X56 upon which this binocular is based it is fairly heavy (at 1,030 gr it is about 300 gr heavier) and not nearly as comfortable to carry and hold. I have a narrow 60 mm IPD and find the soft thin rims of the eyecups most comfortable to use. The rubber eyecups are also perfect but if you wear glasses I'm not sure how much folding down they will take before starting to crack. My example is over 20 years old and focusing and diopter adjustment are perfect, and it is still immaculately clean inside. The 7 mm exit pupil gives a very relaxed view which I like.īuild quality, as expected, is great. I haven't used it in low light conditions yet but with the big exit pupil and its excellent anti-reflective coatings it should perform well. This may be due to lack of phase coating. Sharpness of image is very good but does not immediately impress as its brightness and stray light control do. Sharpness to the edge is good but not outstanding - the image is really sharp to about 65-70% and stays decently sharp to at least 85%. FOV is about 6.3 degrees so a little narrow. Viewing into a brightly lit area with the sun low on the horizon creating a lot of glare, its stray light control is extremely good, equal to that of my best binoculars such the Nikon 8X32 SE or 7X50 Tropical. Color is a bit on the warm side, but it certainly does not have the yellow/amber tint sometimes evident on older binoculars. I received them yesterday and used them for the first time this morning so what follows is only a very initial impression.īrightness and color are both exceptionally good.
